A real estate group that includes local developer Peter Hoffman is seeking development rights on city-owned property to build a 120-room Holiday Inn attached to the Glens Falls Civic Center.
The hotel would be built adjacent to the Civic Center on the northeast side of the property, near Church Street. It would be connected to the Civic Center by a new entrance leading into Heritage Hall. The group's proposal also includes building a parking garage in the vicinity of the parking area behind the Adirondack Regional Chamber of Commerce offices. That property is owned by Hoffman. No buildings would be demolished in conjunction with the proposed project.
The Post-Star obtained a copy of the 13-page proposal under the state Freedom of Information Law.
The city Common Council has scheduled a special meeting at 5 p.m. Wednesday in Heritage Hall to discuss the proposed project. The real estate group needs to obtain development rights on the property for a two-year period in order to finalize financing and a hotel franchise agreement, Hoffman said Monday.
"At this stage, we have to be able to put the piece of land together for a period of time," he said.
